What are the compensation benchmarks for ESOP companies? How much base, deferred, and incentive compensation should top executives at your company expect? What about stock options, restricted stock, and other forms of equity compensation?
Directors, trustees, and officers of ESOP companies need the answers to these questions, but until now there has been no data. Anecdotally, experts in the field have long known that executives in ESOP companies are often compensated differently from other executives. That's in part because ESOP executives accumulate ESOP benefits not available to other executives, but it's also because many ESOP companies make different demands on their executives.
The NCEO's ESOP Executive Compensation Database fills this information gap. Based on a detailed survey of 204 ESOP companies conducted in 2005, the database includes background information about each respondent (company size, age of ESOP, corporate status, stock growth, industry, etc.), details of compensation mechanics (vesting, mechanisms to set compensation, perquisites, etc.) and detailed compensation data. (The identities of individual companies are not revealed.)
We published a general overview of the results in a chapter in the book Executive Compensation for ESOP Companies). However, for data relevant to your own situation, you may purchase a report that customizes the data to focus on companies comparable to yours, or you may even wish to acquire the entire data set.
"This report gives us information that we've needed but found very difficult and expensive to acquire in the past. This is a great service."
-- Robert H. Carlson (CEO Emeritus and board member, Reell Precision Manufacturing)
"Not only did we get data on executive compensation in ESOP companies, we were also able to look at compensation levels for companies in our size range and industry type. I was impressed with the amount of data, the different executive positions it covered, and the quick turnaround--I would recommend this to any ESOP company."
--Cindy Turcot (Chief Operating Officer, Gardener's Supply Company)
A custom report includes two different breakdowns of the data based on criteria you supply. For example, you might have table 1 look at manufacturing companies broken down by the number of employees and table 2 look at manufacturing companies broken down into S corporations versus C corporations. The report is emailed to you in PDF format. The cost is $150 for NCEO members and $300 for nonmembers. (If you are a nonmember but join now, you will pay the discounted member price.)

ESOP consultants and others may wish to order the entire database (emailed as an Excel spreadsheet file) so that they may run an unlimited number of custom reports. Up to 10 custom reports (produced by the NCEO) are also included. The cost is $1,000 for NCEO members and $2,000 for nonmembers.
You can order over the phone or using the order form below. No matter how you order, once you have paid, you will have a phone conversation with us to determine how you want your reports customized.
