NCEO Membership Benefits and Fees

The NCEO, which is widely recogized as "the single best source of information on employee ownership anywhere in the world" (Inc. magazine, August 2000), has thousands of members, ranging from employee-owned companies to consultants to individuals. See here for more information on the NCEO and its activities. Aside from supporting our work promoting employee ownership, NCEO members receive five key benefits:

(1) Bimonthly Newsletter

Our 16-page newsletter, the Employee Ownership Report, appears every two months. By far the most informative newsletter in the field, it contains news on legal, regulatory, and financial developments; ideas, tips, and reports on management practices in employee ownership firms; technical articles by employee ownership experts; research and case studies; a one-page pullout for rank-and-file employees; and company, media, and resource information. Many of the articles on this site are drawn from past issues of the newsletter.

(2) Access to the Members Area

The members area of this site features a searchable database of over 200 consultants in employee ownership and participation; a guide to choosing consultants; a searchable archive of past NCEO newsletters; a stock plan glossary; a discussion forum; a directory of case studies classified by date, company size, type of plan, etc.; and more. See here for details.

(3) Access to Free Live ESOP Webinars

Members receive free access to live Webinars (online seminars) on a variety of ESOP-related subjects such as ESOP feasibility, issues for S corporation ESOPs, handling the ESOP repurchase obligation, using ESOPs for acquisitions, communicating the ESOP to employees, the 409A deferred compensation rules, and getting employees involved. See our meetings page for a list of upcoming Webinars.

(4) Discounts on NCEO Publications and Meetings

NCEO's many publications cover all aspects of employee ownership. Our annual conference is a three-day event bringing together all parts of the employee ownership community. We hold many ESOP workshops and other meetings throughout the year. Members receive large discounts, e.g., paying $25 instead of $35 for a book or $95 instead of $130 for a meeting.

(5) Individual Consultations

Members can call or email us anytime for general advice or to get questions answered. This is an invaluable service and helps both companies and consultants avoid costly mistakes. On a fee basis, NCEO executive director Corey Rosen will meet with managers or employees to provide an overview of employee ownership.

What It Costs to Join for 1 Year

If you are a service provider in this field, the membership applies to you individually unless you are a Referral Service member, in which it applies to your entire office. Academic memberships apply only to a single person. Otherwise, the membership applies to the entire company. Your membership lasts for 1 year (12 months) from the date you join. After a year, you can decide whether to renew your membership; there is no obligation to continue.

Regular membership: $90

Consultant listed in our referral service: $300

Academic (full-time student or teacher not employed in the business sector): $40

Add $10 to the above fees if outside the U.S.

If your company has a stock plan, after the first year the fees increase on a sliding scale (the highest being $420 for a company of over 500 employees).

How to Sign Up for Membership

To join the NCEO, use our quick signup form if membership is all you want, or our regular order form if you also are ordering books or registering for meetings, or call us at (510) 208-1300 with your credit card information in hand. All you need to do is provide your name, company name, address, etc., and pay--it's no more complicated than subscribing to a magazine and, like a magazine subscription, does not obligate you to do anything.
