Resources on Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs)
An employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) is a type of employee benefit plan in the U.S. that buys and holds company stock for the benefit of a broad group of employees. ESOPs offer significant tax advantages and often are used in closely held (private) companies to buy part or all of the shares of existing owners, but they also are used in public companies. We offer a broad array of resources for anyone interested or involved with these plans. If you are seeking a resource and don't find it here, feel free to contact us at customerservice@nceo.org.
Articles
Aside from our articles on ESOPs, see our general articles for research on the connection between employee ownership and corporate performance, plus statistics on the number of plan participants in the U.S., etc. Also see our columns on various topics.
Publications
We are the leading publisher worldwide on employee ownership, and many of our titles deal with ESOPs. For an online reference tool, see our ESOP Q&A. We also publish lists of companies with ESOPs and other stock plans, plus our ESOP Executive Compensation Database.
Meetings
Our meetings on ESOPs and related issues include dozens of free live Webinars for members; Webinar replays; in-person meetings at locations around the U.S.; and our annual conference, which offers not only sessions on ESOPs but also extensive networking and other informational opportunities.
Training and Employee Surveys
We offer instructional materials for ESOP companies and their employees. We also can survey your company's employees to see how effective your plan is and whether it is being understood.
Speaking and Preliminary Consulting
While we are not a consulting organization in the sense that we do not set up or administer plans, we can provide speakers for a variety of employee ownership-related events as well as introductory consulting services for companies considering plans or looking to update them.
Resources for Members
Our members receive several key benefits. One of them is exclusive access to the members-only area of this site, which includes a searchable newsletter archive; a referral service with hundreds of consultants specializing in this area; a discussion forum; a stock plan glossary; case studies; an "Employee Owners' Page" archive with dozens of handouts to use with employees; and more.
