ESOP and Broad-Based Equity Awards in Major Public Companies

2007; $100 for NCEO members; $150 for nonmembers.

This list was compiled in 2007 with support from the Herron Foundation and Innovest. It looks at the prevalence of ESOPs and broad-based options or restricted stock awards in the S&P 900. It lists companies who had ESOPs, and the estimated percentage of ESOP ownership, in 2005. Companies where the percentage is less than 5% show up simply at <5%. 2005 is the latest year for which public data are available allowing such calculations. It also indicates the presence of broad-based options or restricted stock plans (defined as grants to at least half of all full-time employees) based on reports from consultants. Because public data on these plans are not available, we had to rely on this more anecdotal approach, meaning some companies that have these plans will not appear on the list. The list is contained in a Microsoft Word document that is emailed to purchasers.
