Mini-Questionnaire for ESOP Companies

NCEO members can purchase access to an eight-item mini-questionnaire, with full analysis, fast turnaround, and our standard benchmarking data from over 7,000 employee owners at over 35 different companies. The price, $200 for members only, is a deep discount from the full-service survey and includes everything companies need for a quick measure of the work force's perception of the ESOP and employee ownership.

We will create a mini-questionnaire for your company; it is generally ready to be completed by employees within 24 hours after we confirm your order. Your results, including an analysis of how your company compares with the benchmark data, can be ready in as little as one day following the completion of the final questionnaire.

The mini-questionnaire includes:

  • Analysis: For each item, you will receive your company average, a comparison to the benchmarking data (both statistical and practical significance), standard deviation (a measure of the level of consensus), percentiles, and rates of non-response.
  • Cynicism: The included items allow the NCEO to estimate the number of cynics and champions of ownership among the people who respond to the mini-questionnaire.
  • Administration: The fee includes online hosting of a company-specific questionnaire, updates on response rate, and data entry.
  • Summary table: A single table shows the survey results at a glance.
  • Sample text: You can cut and paste editable text into an email (or other format), inviting employee-owners to complete the survey. The text includes a unique link to your company's survey.
  • Up to 100 respondents: You may increase the respondent maximum for a small fee.

The items in the mini-questionnaire are:

  1. How much do you feel like an owner of this company?
  2. How important is ownership to you?
  3. Generally speaking, I understand the ESOP idea and how it works at this company.
  4. I know approximately how much money my ESOP account is worth.
  5. People recognize that the future value of their ESOP account depends on the success of the company.
  6. I have access to all the company information I think I need.
  7. The person I report to actively seeks my input.
  8. I feel an obligation to challenge poor performance by my fellow employees.

What really makes this survey valuable is that all items include benchmark data from employee ownership companies, available exclusively in the NCEO's database. Each item includes data from over 20 companies, with the exception of item 4. This more recent item has data from over 700 employees at eight employee ownership companies.

A sample mini-questionnaire is online at www.nceo.org/miniquestionnaire (link opens in new window), and a typical data chart is at Sample Results.

The mini-questionnaire does not include all the features available in the full-service survey. The set of items is pre-set and substitution is not possible. The mini-questionnaire does not include any demographic items, so analysis by employee subgroup is not included. The mini-questionnaire does not include open-ended items ("written questions"), and it is only available in English. The full-service questionnaire includes an hour of follow-up consulting; 15 minutes are included with the mini-questionnaire.

Companies wanting greater flexibility and customization than available through the mini-questionnaire can also create their own questionnaires by selecting from the NCEO's list of survey items.
