Preconference Session

Fall ESOP Forum

Albuquerque, NM :: October 3–4, 2018 (preconference on October 2)

Preconference session

Through expert presentations and interactive small groups, this program led by NCEO staff, ESOP experts, and an ESOP company will look at how to make your ESOP successful over the long term. This session is an optional, extra-cost addition to your Forum registration.

ESOP companies face issues and have opportunities that are unique to them. How do you balance the need for growth with the need to provide for repurchase? Should you start distributions sooner or later? How long should an ESOP loan be? What role should the board play? How can you take advantage of ownership to build a culture of lasting engagement and opportunity? Research and experience has provide a set of best practices that can help make sustainability a reality. We will discuss issues such as:

  • Designing an ESOP to last from the start
  • Sustainable repurchase obligation and distribution policies
  • Effective governance
  • Building and maintaining an ownership culture
  • Strategic planning in an ESOP environment

You'll leave the preconference with specific ideas you can take home about how to use the benefits of employee ownership to create a stronger culture and company.
