April showers brought May flowers, but it also brought the OWN Health captive members together for their first annual member meeting in Denver, Colorado. 

OWN Health launched just one year ago, on July 1, 2021. As we met to discuss captive growth, stability, and performance, the common theme was the importance of connection—from connecting with fellow OWN members and leveraging peer group support to connecting with fellow ESOP companies to share how an ESOP captive could benefit their company. The founding member of OWN Health, Freedom Industries CFO Cheryl Howell, shared her thoughts on her experience within the captive:

“As an ESOP, Freedom Industries strongly values OWNING our business, our culture, and the way we create value for our employee-owners and customers. Joining the OWN Health captive enabled us to take ownership of our health benefits and risk by partnering with industry experts and like-minded ESOPs. Meeting our partners in person was an incredible time to learn from those experts, share best practices, review performance, discuss risk-management strategies, identify improvement opportunities, make decisions, get to know amazing people, and have some fun in the process. Since joining OWN Health, with the support of our TPA, Freedom has ring-fenced our major risk factor and implemented a strategy to reduce captive risk and increase member benefits. Our desire is that more like-minded ESOPs would join our captive to OWN their health and increase member value!”
