In a recent unpublished survey by the NCEO, 18% of ESOP companies reported having acquired another business. Making acquisitions is among the most in-demand topics at NCEO events, and interest is growing as executives and boards increasingly build acquisitions into their growth and capital management strategies. ESOP companies have special challenges when making acquisitions, but they also have tools not available to non-ESOP companies.

Join your peers at local ESOP companies and the NCEO’s executive director Loren Rodgers on August 5 for an evening of learning and networking from 5:30–8:30 p.m. at the O'Henry Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina. The O'Henry, an ESOP-owned venue, will provide both a warm, welcoming space and a culinary experience that meets the standards of excellence of their employee-owners.

The evening will offer a chance for each participant to meet their peers, learn about their businesses, and understand how acquisitions currently fit into their business plans. Be ready for a candid give-and-take about the challenges and opportunities of leading an ESOP company through successful acquisition, from preparing to start the process to finding targets, from making an offer to performing due diligence, and to the organizational/culture issues that can make or break an acquisition. The conversation will include the unique requirements and opportunities for ESOP companies, from the role of the trustee, to alternative acquisition structures, to using your ownership culture as an advantage.

The NCEO’s Loren Rodgers will join as a participant—there will be no PowerPoint presentation!—to share what the NCEO has learned from its members, CEO roundtables, and research. He will also leave participants with access to hands-on NCEO resources that support acquisitions, such as a toolkit for companies seeking to be acquired. He’ll also preview some of the sessions from the NCEO’s 2024 Fall Forum (September 18–20 in Indianapolis), which has a track dedicated to acquisition strategies for ESOP companies.

To ensure a rich, participative conversation, space is limited to just 20 attendees.
