A new NCEO survey of over 420 ESOP companies on how they handle their repurchase obligations found that the most commonly used method of funding current-year ESOP distributions is cash from company operations.

New Data on Executive Compensation in ESOP Companies

The NCEO's ESOP Executive Compensation Survey collects and presents some of the only data on executive compensation specific to ESOP companies. We collected data for the latest installment of the survey from October 2016 to January 2017.

New Data on Number of ESOPs and Participants

According to the latest data available from the Department of Labor, there were 6,660 ESOPs sponsored by 6,365 companies as of the end of 2016. These plans cover 14.3 million participants and hold close to $1.4 trillion in plan assets. A total of 10.7 million participants are active employees.
