Over the last few years, one-third of the winners of the Winning Workplaces awards have gone to NCEO members and employee ownership companies (all the winning employee ownership companies have been members, it turns out). The process for self-nomination is open again.

Winning Workplaces Webinar on Employee Ownership

Winning Workplaces is a nonprofit organization that, along with the Wall Street Journal, names the top 15 workplaces for companies with fewer than 1,000 employees. Five of the 2007 winners are employee-owned (all NCEO members), and some of the remaining 10 are considering setting up plans.

Wisconsin and Worker Ownership

Madison, Wisconsin, mayor Paul Soglin says his city will "not to be upstaged by New York City." New York has allocated $1.2 million to promote worker cooperatives, and Madison has now agreed to spend $1 million a year for the next five years to help develop promote worker-owned cooperatives.

Worker Co-op Conference July 10-12, 2015, in Massachusetts

The Eastern Conference for Workplace Democracy (ECWD) will be July 10-12 at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. This biennial conference of the eastern region of the US welcomes worker cooperators, co-op developers, community and labor activists, funders, academics, and journalists.

Worker Cooperative at Bauen Hotel in Argentina Faces Eviction

After the Bauen Hotel closed its doors in 2001, a group of workers occupied the hotel, invested in repairs, and re-opened the hotel, running it as a worker cooperative and becoming a leading example of Argentinian worker-recuperated enterprises.
