For more than a decade, the NCEO has recognized employee-owned companies at our annual conference for their innovative practices in employee ownership culture and participative workplace management.

As always, our attendees generated a lot of good ideas at the Fall ESOP Forum. A few really struck us.

A critical question we are being asked is whether you can or should get an interim valuation in response to changed economic circumstances, and if so, how  is it done.

If one employee-owned company can reap the benefits of employee ownership to provide an attractive workplace while outperforming competitors, what can a group of employee-owned companies accomplish together?

After working in private equity, it took Kerianne Geist just a few weeks of serving on the 100% ESOP-owned Andesa Services’ BAFLE committee (Business Acumen, Financial Literacy, and ESOPs) to exclaim to herself, “Oh my goodness, this is actually real.”

In our Spring 2020 ESOP Topics Survey, we surveyed ESOP companies about the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on their businesses and how they are responding. We received responses from 160 privately held companies with an ESOP in May and June 2020.

Many ESOP companies and their employee-owners witnessed a significant decline in the valuations of their company stock, per their December 31, 2022, year-end appraisals (as compared to the December 31, 2021, appraisals), even if they had a good year.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 provided $10 billion to fund the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) program.

Recruitment is a challenge these days. NCEO member Dialectic posted this blog on its website to help current and potential employees understand the benefits of being a 100% ESOP company.

What if you could win over potential new colleagues with a well-crafted story that makes people want to join you, tugs at the heartstrings, and creates a sense of belonging from the very first day? How would you do that? You might consider telling creation stories.
