Each year, the NCEO compiles a database of all ESOPs in the US. This database breaks out privately held and publicly traded ESOPs, and includes the age of the ESOP, number of participants, total plan assets, and more. We have just released the 2020 version.

On January 29, the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives and the Democracy at Work Institute released their annual report on the state of worker cooperatives in the U.S.

There are interesting and helpful resources and research coming from Michael Darger and others at the University of Minnesota Extension program. Most recently, they conducted a rigorous survey of the state’s business owners that offers real insights into how employee ownership fits into their plans.

We just released this year's EO 100, our annual list of the largest 100 companies that are owned by an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) or similar plan or, less commonly, where a majority of the employees directly own a majority of the shares.

Vanguard released its annual How America Saves 2019 report on the retirement behavior of American workers and employers that use its administration services.

An excellent article in the Wall Street Journal on August 5 discussed how research consistently shows that people of color are much less likely to accumulate equity in their companies than other workers.
