Greg Brown, 1951-2023

Gregory K. Brown was a highly skilled and accomplished employee benefits lawyer with a passionate belief in the concept of employee ownership. Greg saw first-hand what happens when employees own a share of the companies where they work – the benefits to the companies, but also to the economic well-being of employees and their families, often among people who would otherwise never own a piece of the American economy. He was directly involved in helping hundreds of companies, representing countless employees, with employee-ownership structures, operations and sustainability. Greg also served as a formal and informal mentor to many in the community, helping to grow the next generation of service providers in the industry and generously sharing his wealth of knowledge to anyone he came across.

To honor Greg’s legacy, a memorial research and scholarship fund has been established - designed to support a multi-year, collaborative research and scholarship effort to foster and promote the growth and ongoing sustainability of employee ownership arrangements, including ESOPs. This fund will support scholarship, research and research-based outreach designed to expand the availability of employee ownership to more companies, more people, and more communities and to help shape the future of employee ownership and those in professions supporting employee ownership.

The specifics of the projects and beneficiaries of the fund, as well as the results of each project will be continually updated on this page. An advisory committee will review and choose the projects and beneficiaries of the fund on an ongoing basis.

Greg was also a bridge builder, and in that spirit, the fund will be open to supporting collaborative projects involving other organizations throughout the employee ownership arena and to helping develop the next generation of employee-owners and those involved in the field.

To support the fund, please make a donation to the National Center for Employee Ownership using the form on this page. Your donations will be restricted and will be used exclusively to support the work of the fund. The NCEO is a 501(c)(3), and your donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
