The Beyster Initiatives in Equity and Ownership

For more than fifty years, employee equity and ownership have been proven mechanisms for building resilient, innovative companies and distributing economic opportunity more broadly. The Rady School’s Beyster Initiatives center this work at UC San Diego, advancing research, education, and practice in equitable ownership models.

To deepen the school’s impact in this space, the Rady School has established the Beyster Executive in Residence for Innovation through Equity and Ownership. The incumbent is a nationally recognized practitioner with demonstrated experience leading institutions that embody inclusion and equitable ownership.

The Beyster Initiatives align with a growing network of university programs and field organizations committed to advancing employee ownership, including NCEO, the Rutgers Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing, Kent State University’s Ohio Employee Ownership Center, and others.

Why This Work Matters

The U.S. economy continues to reflect a widening gap in ownership of wealth and income-producing assets. As technological change, shifting workforce norms, and demographic transitions redefine the future of work, bold and practical solutions are needed to ensure more people have access to wealth creation, not just wages.

Employee ownership is one of those solutions. The Rady School and NCEO are committed to building the field’s next generation of practitioners, advisors, and researchers who can put it to work.
