Who Does What in an ESOP Company

ESOP companies have more moving parts than other companies. In addition to a board of directors and managers, they also need a plan trustee to make sure the plan is operated in the interests of the plan participants, a plan administrator to make sure the plan runs properly, and often an ESOP committee to direct the trustee. Many companies also have an ESOP communication committee.

This Download is a two-page handout explaining who fills these roles and what they typically do. This is a general template that can be edited to match the way your company is set up.

Ideas for using this resource:
  • Incorporate into an exercise in which employees fill in the “what they do” columns individually or as a group, followed by a discussion afterward of what people in your company actually do (The version with these columns left blank can be found here in English and Spanish)
Include in an owner’s manual or employee handbook
