London Launches Employee Ownership Initiative

Executive Director

On December 2, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the creation of the London Ownership Hub, which will launch in early 2023 with the goal of creating "the networks, resources and conditions to help worker co-operative and employee-owned businesses across London develop and thrive." London contains nearly 500 employee owned businesses, 30% of the total in the UK, and the sector proved resilient through the pandemic.

Mayor Kahn says, "Employee ownership creates dynamic, engaged workforces who feel a deep connection and shared purpose with where they work and who they work with... Increasing the number of employee- and worker-owned businesses is a key part of my mission to build a better London for everyone – a safer, fairer, greener and more prosperous city for all.”

The Ownership Hub is a partnership between the mayor's office and two organizations: the Employee Ownership Association and Co-operatives UK.
